The Charlevoix Kiwanis Club recently held its Annual Appreciation Luncheon honoring an individual who has given their time, support and care for youth in our community. This year’s recipient was Rosemary Horton who has been active with the Community Food Pantry and St. Mary Church in Charlevoix for many years.
Rosemary has also been involved with the CHS Band Boosters, the Democratic Party and the Altar Guild, church coffee hours and Pancake Suppers . She started the ‘Green Envelope’ at St. Mary Church which added an extra collection at Mass once a month to help support the Food Pantry. She also started the ‘Giving Tree’ project which allowed more families to be helped during the Christmas season. This eventually became part of the Community Christmas Project.
Rosemary was surprised she was this years recipient but also very grateful. Her daughter Mary Farrell was able to attend this event as well as guest Mary Plude from St. Mary Church . Rosemary received a warm standing ovation from the Charlevoix Kiwanis Club as they were pleased to recognize her years of dedication. She received a Kiwanis plaque honoring her service and it was presented by Pastor Neil Wilson, current president of the Community Food Pantry and Kiwanis member.
