Scott Kelly BASES executive director was our speaker at our May 23rd luncheon meeting. Scott started BASES along with his wife Celina in 1992 to help at risk young people. Over the course of the years the program has expanded its outreach from a “teen center” with the addition of counselors and new programx. The program has expanded well beyond the Northern Michigan area as it has had young people from 43 Michigan counties referred to the program.
BSES services include substance disorder evaluation, and individual counseling for adults and adolescents. They provide an array of services for the courts, law enforcement, employers, schools, jailed inmates and individuals. They have started a Life Skills Program that works with individuals and group settings for a number of area schools. They can help individuals obtain access to community support services and assistance with Medicaid applications and accept some other publicly funded insurances such as MI Child and Healthy Michigan.
The BASES’ staff is participating in the training for a domestic violence intervention program and hope to begin weekly men’s groups in August of this year (2017)
